Energy Companies of Finnish Lapland Acquire Aidon Remote-readable Metering Equipment

Aidon Ltd. will deliver a total of 90 000 units of next-generation remote-readable energy metering equipment to eight energy companies in the Finnish Lapland. Aidon’s intelligent equipment will be installed in all locations using electricity, and they will be in two-directional contact to a remote-reading system supplied by TeliaSonera Finland.

“Aidon’s solution meets the strict requirements of the Nordic conditions and offers additional features which can be taken into use through a remote update. In a large distribution area, the remote reading system also benefits the management of the distribution network,” says Tapio Jalonen, Managing Director of Rovakaira Oy.

The client companies are Enontekiön Sähkö Oy, Inergia Verkko Oy, Koillis-Lapin Sähkö Oy, Muonion Sähköosuuskunta, Pellon Sähkö Oy, Rovakaira Oy, Rovaniemen Verkko Oy and Tornionlaakson Sähkö Oy. The installation of the meters begins during the autumn and will be completed by the end of 2013.

“In December, we implemented a pilot project at Saariselkä Tourist Centre, installing 300 Aidon meters equipped with a MeshNet, RS485 or GPRS connection,” recounts Jarkko Kaisanlahti, Production Manager of Inergia Oy’s Network Unit.

“The system as a whole works reliably with no problems. The Aidon meter also has the benefit of being especially easy to install, allowing for fast and error-free work,” Mr Kaisanlahti continues.

The intelligent metering equipment developed by Aidon consists of an electricity energy meter equipped with a telecommunication bus, system module and remote connection device. The remote reading system will automatically program them during installation and handle the later software updates as well as the implementation of new functionality.
