Aidon delivers AMR meters to Jyväskylän Energia

By the end of 2012, new AMR energy meters will be installed at every consumption point within Jyväskylän Energia’s electricity distribution network. Jyväskylä-based Aidon Oy, will supply electricity network operator JE-Siirto Oy with 48,000 energy meters. These will be connected to a remote reading system provided by TeliaSonera Finland.

- Smart AMR meters will provide new potential for e.g. electricity distribution network management and improved customer service. The concrete benefits generated by these meters are long term. We will begin by introducing e.g. low voltage network management. Among other advantages, this will yield substantial benefits within the city environment, explains Kari Kautto, Managing Director of JE-Siirto Oy.

JE-Siirto will monitor the network status, based on data sent from the meters to the operation support system. This will enable rapid fault detection within the customer’s or JE-Siirto’s network, yielding more accurate information on fault locations and frequencies. Repairmen will be able to get to work right away without a prior service call from the customer. For the customer, this will mean improved quality of electricity supply.

AMR meters enable faster movement from one tariff to another, since there is no need for the electrician to revisit the premises. It is also easier to create the final invoices for customers moving away and the initial readings for new customers.

- In light of the likely emergence of new requirements for metering and control, reliability and upgradeability were decisive factors in selecting Aidon’s energy meters. The local presence and support services of the meter supplier are also important to us, explains Kari Kautto.

Aidon’s new-generation meters consist of electricity meters equipped with a data communications route, a system module and a remote connection device.
