NEWS RELEASE - 5-4-2006
Energy companies are expecting openness and new benefits from
AMR systems
Within a few years, automatic energy meter reading will replace
the traditional visits of meter readers and estimated invoicing.
The EUs aim to decontrol the energy market requires
more real-time information on customers energy consumption.
In addition, the needs of energy companies to improve their
operations are accelerating the investments in automatic meter
reading.
One challenge for energy companies is to find appropriate
information systems and energy meters, while at the same time
adapting to the changing needs of new processes for automatic
meter reading. At the moment, investment decisions are complicated
by meter manufacturers' incompatible systems.
The seriousness of the situation became evident through a
recent study by Aidon on energy companies expectations
on automatic energy meter reading systems. It shows that the
incompatibility of the systems and the equipment is the main
obstacle for the development of automatic meter reading (AMR)
systems.
- Our operations are based on openness, ranging from the
highest level in the AMR system to the consumption measurement
data-collection level. We are committed to creating concrete
solutions for compatibility in cooperation with energy companies.
Technological solutions are always possible to achieve, when
you first know what you want to accomplish, says Timo
Chrons, the Managing Director of Aidon Ltd.
- The development has been the most rapid in Sweden, where
energy companies need for openness is concretely seen
in requests for quotations. We believe that the same development
will be broadened also elsewhere.
Aidons new AMR meter concept is a practical example
of open-thinking. It comprises an energy meter with a plug-in
system module connected through a data communications bus
based on open standards. The meter can be renewed by simply
downloading new applications, new software or replacing the
system module. Any of those eliminates the need to change
the meter itself.
Aidon Ltd develops and markets equipment, software and services
for automatic energy meter reading. The major customers of
the company, which operates in Finland, Sweden and Norway,
are energy companies. Aidon Ltd, founded in 2004, is owned
by corporate management, staff and capital funds.
